From a simple beginning as a personal research project to an important role in the operating systems on a wide range of computer systems, UNIX has a lot of impact. Today there are a number of commercial versions of UNIX. IBM has one called AIX. Hewlett-Packard has HP-UX. Sun Microsystems has Solaris.
